"I wish I had known about the opportunities, sales systems, guidance and support CBU provides 11 years ago when I first entered this field...Partnering with Combined Benefits United is still working FOR myself, just not BY myself."
Peter Hanson is an investment advisor and licensed insurance broker at Hanson Financial Services, LLC., a partner of Combined Benefits United. After leaving a corporate director position in Boston, Massachusetts in 2006, Peter began his career in insurance, originally, to save on the long commutes from Maine and the lack of flexibility in his position. "My family and I love to travel - ski in the winter and mountain bike when there's no snow," says Peter. "So I was attracted to a career in insurance sales because of the unlimited earning potential while making my own schedule."
Peter has been a partner of CBU for nearly 3 years, and like many of our advisors, he was approached from a phone call by one of our recruiters. "Prior to working with CBU, the majority of my clients were from individual health insurance sales," says Peter. "In 2014 I had just purchased a book on Annuities and Fixed Index Life Insurance when I received a call from Combined Benefits United asking if I had an interest in making a 'pivot' towards indexed insurance products. It was meant to be!"
Having worked in the field for over a decade, Peter had a lot of experience dealing with different aspects of a client's needs, but says that partnering with CBU helped him to transition his sales approach from "transactional" to a "lifelong relationship" sale. "I wish I had known about the opportunities, sales systems, guidance and support CBU provides 11 years ago when I first entered this field," says Peter. "I can help a client throughout the different stages of their lives with life insurance, annuities, medicare, wealth management...Partnering with Combined Benefits United is still working for myself, just not by myself anymore."
"My practice focuses primarily on being that trusted advisor to clients that are newly retired or preparing to do so. Having my securities license (and being an IAR) means I have the legal obligation of a Fiduciary, and my clients understand that any recommendation I make is truly being made in their best interest," says Peter. "With the systems I use through my partnership with CBU, these clients come to me. I expect to be able to grow from one shop to multiple locations throughout Maine within 5 years."
Peter is a resident of Scarborough, Maine, where he lives with his wife and two sons.
